Spartans Hit the Road for Nevada Road Trip

 SAN JOSE, Calif. – After a four-game home stand to open conference play, SJSU women's soccer will hit the road for a pair of Mountain West contests this weekend against Nevada and UNLV. Both games will be streamed live online on the Mountain West Network.

LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans finished 1-1 on the weekend at Spartan Soccer Stadium. After falling to SDSU in the 89th minute in a 1-0 loss, SJSU bounced back to defeat New Mexico 1-0 in Sunday's contest.

MEET THE OPPONENT – NEVADA
Nevada enters Friday's match 4-6-2 overall and 1-3-0 in Mountain West play. The Wolfpack defeated Air Force 1-0 on September 28, to stop three-game losing skid to Utah, Boise State and Utah State. They fell 1-0 at Colorado College in their last outing. In fact, with the exception of two ties, every game Nevada has played this season has resulted in a one-goal difference. The Wolfpack is led by second-year coach Erin Otagaki and is currently 10th in the conference standings.

SERIES HISTORY – NEVADA
SJSU holds the series lead over the Wolfpack 13-5-1 and is carrying a three-game win streak into Friday's game. Last season saw the Spartans win 2-0 in San Jose on October 13.

MEET THE OPPONENT – UNLV
UNLV is currently tied for 7th in the Mountain West standings with a 1-2-1 record in league play and has a 7-4-2 mark overall. After opening MW play with a 1-0 win over Utah State, the Rebels dropped two straight against Boise State (3-0) and Colorado College (2-1) before tying Air Force (0-0) in their last outing. UNLV is led by Chris Shaw in his fifth season.

SERIES HISTORY – UNLV
UNLV leads the series against the Spartans 4-2, however SJSU has won the last two outings. Last season's installment was a wild one as the Spartans fought back from a 2-0 first half deficit to win 3-2 as Darriell Franklin scored a pair of goals, her second of which being the game-winner in the 83rd minute.  

SPARTANS LEADING THE PACK
SJSU leads the Mountain West and ranks 38th nationally in goals against average with just eight goals allowed in 11 games for an average of .687 percent.

IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST STANDINGS
SJSU currently is tied for second in the Mountain West standings with Colorado College with a record of 3-1-0 and nine points. Boise State leads the pack with a 4-0-0 record.

SIMONEAU STANDING OUT
Senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau has been rock-steady for the Spartans so far in 2018, conceding just seven goals while tallying 31 saves and pitching five shutouts. The Corona, Calif. product has posted a 4-5-1 record and has guided the Spartans to three shutous in their first four Mountain West games. Simoneau picked up MWC Defensive Player of the Week honors following her shutout against Kansas State on September 2.

FRANKLIN STEPS UP BIG IN MW PLAY
Senior Darriell Franklin entered Mountain West play with just three shots taken to her name, however she has stepped up in a big way attempting 24 shots in the last four games for an average of six per game in league play. Two of those shots have resulted in game-winning goals against Colorado College and New Mexico, respectively.

TWO MORE CHANCES TO SEE THE SPARTANS AT HOME
Fans will have two more chances to catch the Spartans at home in 2018. SJSU will host Colorado State on Friday Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. and Wyoming on Oct. 14, at 12:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the field prior to each contest.
