Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State freshman Natasha Andrea Oon has been named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Month for September.
Oon burst onto the scene by winning her first collegiate tournament. She shot a nine-under 207 at the Minnesota Invitational to win by six shots. Oon shot a career-best five-under 67 in the first round, which coincidentally fell on her 17th birthday. She also recorded a two-under 70 in the second and third rounds and made her first collegiate eagle on the 54th hole of the tournament, a seven-foot putt.
Oon then followed up that performance with a three-over 216 at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate to tie for 11th place. She shot an even-par 71 in the final round, making four birdies that day.
For September, Oon finished with a 70.5 stroke average in rounds played. She helped the Spartans to the team title at the Minnesota Invitational and a second-place finish at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate.
San José State competes next week at the Illini Women's Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 8-9, at the Medinah Country Club.
