Santa Barbara, Calif.----- UC Santa Barbara scored the first three goals of the match and went on to a 14-6 victory over San Jose State University in the Golden Coast Conference men's water polo opener for both teams.
Giacomo Lovatelli and Adam Bado scored for the Spartans (4-5, 0-1 GCC) in the first half. Trailing 7-2 at halftime, Emerson Trout, Henry Smith, Cade Baldridge and Utku Karhan scored for San Jose State in the second half. Baldridge had two of the team's four assists.
Goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with eight saves.
The #16-ranked Spartans continue their weekend taking on #2-ranked UCLA on October 6 and #1-ranked USC on October 7 in a pair of non-conference contests.
"We are excited for our young team to have the opportunity to play the top two rated teams in the nation and gain valuable experience that very few other teams can," said San Jose State head coach Bruce Watson about the remainder of the weekend.
