Moraga, Calif.----- Senior Miyo Kobayashi and freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo each won a singles match and teamed up for a pair of doubles victories highlighting San Jose State University's first day at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.
Kobayashi knocked off Melissa Park of Washington, 7-5, 6-1. She started out the day with Pedrero-Galindo posting doubles wins over Stanford's Naomie Rosenberg and Elizabeth Yao, 8-6, and an 8-4 triumph over University of San Francisco's Hannah Borjeson and Rita Colyer.
Pedrero-Galindo topped Jordan Harris of Saint Mary's, 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker), 6-3.
Freshman Mathilda Vidgren was a third Spartan to win her first-round singles match in a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 decision over Sonoma State's Carolyn Brooner.
The three-day tournament continues on October 6 and concludes on October 7.
