SAN JOSE, Calif. – SJSU women's soccer freshman defender Haleigh Wynne has been named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
"It's been fun to watch Haleigh grow throughout the season and find her confidence in scoring goals," head coach Lauren Hanson said. "She has a fantastic strike on the ball and it's nice to see her be rewarded for that."
Wynne was outstanding for the Spartans on the weekend as she scored a pair of game-winning goals to lead SJSU to road wins over Nevada and UNLV. The Canyon Lake, California product scored her first career-goal in the 62nd minute to break a 1-1 tie at Nevada on Friday. She netted her second game-winner on the weekend against UNLV as she scored unassisted from 18 yards out to lift the Spartans to a 1-0 victory.
Wynne had five shots on-goal for the weekend, including a season-best three against UNLV in 76 minutes played in just her second start of the season.
With the pair of wins, SJSU is now in sole position of second place in the Mountain West standings at 5-1-0 and nipping at the heels of the leader-Boise State (5-0-1).
Wynne and the Spartans will make their last home stand of the season as they host Colorado State and Wyoming at Spartan Soccer Complex on Friday and Saturday.
