Spartans Defeat UNLV 1-0 To Improve To 5-1 In League Play

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – SJSU women's soccer freshman defender Haleigh Wynne scored her second goal of the weekend to give the Spartans a 1-0 win at UNLV on Sunday. SJSU improved to 5-1-0 in Mountain West play with the win.

Knotted in a scoreless tie through one half of play, Wynne finally put the Spartans on the scoreboard as she found the back of the net unassisted from 18 yards out. It's Wynne's second goal on the weekend after tallying her first-career goal Friday at Nevada. The shot was one of 11 on-goal for SJSU out of 15 total taken.

"I'm super proud of this team to get two wins on the road and a shutout in the second game of the weekend," head coach Lauren Hanson said. Haleigh Wynne was on fire today and had a phenomenal goal showing great composure to battle off defenders and place it upper V."

The Spartans defense, per usual, was impressive as they smothered the Rebels offense and allowed just five shots taken, three on-goal. Senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau pitched her sixth shutout on the season and tallied three saves in the effort.

"Natasha Harris led our back line today and the entire backs defense earned that shutout. It was a great team effort."

SJSU will now return to the home pitch for their last Mountain West home matches of the season, hosting Colorado State on Friday and Wyoming on Sunday.
