A SPARTAN WIN WOULD…
A win over the Thunderbirds would give SJSU a 2-0 start for the first time since 2010-11 when the Spartans had a 3-0 start to the season.
NEW LOOK SPARTANS
A total of nine newcomers made their San Jose State debuts in the win over Life Pacific. Guards Brae Ivey, Seneca Knight and Zach Chappell along with forward Michael Steadman all started for the first time at the D1 level.
FIVE FOR FIVE
Five players scored in double figures against Life Pacific in the season opener – Brae Ivey (18), Seneca Knight (17), Michael Steadman (15), Zach Chappell (10) and Christian Anigwe (10). It is the first time the Spartans have accomplished the feat since Dec. 10, 2016, also against Life Pacific.
SUCCESS ON THE BOARDS
The Spartans currently boast a 28.0 rebounding margin after out-rebounding Life Pacific 47-19. The margin currently ranks No. 3 nationally behind Stetson (41.0) and New Hampshire (31.0).
SJSU also ranks 19th nationally in offensive rebounds per game with 19.0. Michael Steadman has six of those boards and ranks 11th individually in the category.
FULL OFFSEASON FOR PRIOLEAU
Head coach Jean Prioleau is entering his second season at the helm of SJSU men's basketball and is coming off his first full offseason with the program. Prioleau was hired on August 4, 2017, and given just three months to prepare for his debut season. Now with a full offseason to prepare his team, Prioleau and his staff are excited about the team's potential.
STAFF CHANGES
Jean Prioleau made some changes to his staff in the offseason as he brought in former NC State All-American Julius Hodge as an assistant coach and promoted director of operations Ryan Cooper to assistant coach.
MEET THE OPPONENT
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds enter Saturday's game at 1-0 after defeating West Coast Baptist College 109-63 in their opener. The Thunderbirds also played Life Pacific in an exhibition in which they won 96-53. Southern Utah is led by Todd Simon in his 3rd season.
TROPICAL BREEZE
After two home games to start off the season, the Spartans will hit the skies for a very long trip east to Bimini, The Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam Nov. 15-18. SJSU will face Weber State in their opening game at 8:30 p.m. PT on Nov. 15.
