Women’s Soccer Signs Six Players In 2019 Class

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State women's soccer has signed six players - Sabrina Weinman, Jennah Loggins, Phoebe Rapoza, Maddie Toomer, Allison Gallant and Isabella Shallou-Enes - as part of their 2019 signing class, head coach Lauren Hanson announced on Friday.

"We are thrilled to have such a talented group of players coming into our 2019 class," Hanson said. "This group of players possesses a good mix of top goal scorers, gritty hard workers and technically savvy players with vision.  All three areas that will help us build off of our success this past season and give us more depth than our program has ever had."

Weinman, a midfielder from Bakersfield, California, is an early enrollee and will join the Spartans this winter. She played four years of varsity soccer at South High School and garnered first team All-Area honors as a junior and first team All-League honors as a freshman and sophomore. Weinman scored 15 goals and tallied 13 assists as a junior and was named the league offensive MVP. She also ran cross country and track for three years.

"Sabrina is an attacking, smooth, and very skilled player that we will look to play centrally," Hanson said. "Her mobility is fantastic, and she has an engine and will that are exceptional.  We are looking forward to her coming in this spring and integrating to the team nicely, getting a tremendous head start to DI college soccer."

Loggins comes to the South Bay by way of Covina, California where she played soccer and ran track at South Hills High School. The forward scored 12 goals over her sophomore and junior seasons

"Jennah's athleticism is outstanding, but her change of pace is exceptional," Hanson said. "We are thrilled to have a player with such an attacking mindset coming in this class and look forward to her coming in and making an impact."

Rapoza is a defender from Scotts Valley, California that played two seasons of high school soccer at Scotts Valley High where she earned first team All-League honors both years before playing her junior and senior seasons for the California Thorns FC Girls Development Academy. As a consistent starter both years, Rapoza tallied five assists and one goal in 2017 and had four assists this past season.

"Phoebe has a tenacity and grit that is unteachable," Hanson said. "She is a physical, hard-nosed player that can play multiple positions and excel at them.  We are excited to have her as a part of our squad in 2019."

Toomer played both defender and forward as a four-year letterwinner at Frontier High School in Bakersfield, California. She was a two-time first team All-League selection, was named first team All-Area and twice made the All-Area All-Star team. She won the team's leadership award in 2016 and 2018 as well as the GPA award in each of the last three seasons. As a junior, Toomer racked up four goals, three assists and 72 steals as a defender.

"Maddie is an extremely hard working player that has all the tools athletically," Hanson said. "She finds a way on the field to make things work and push her team. We can't wait for her to bring this to our program."

Gallant can also play multiple positions and comes to the Bay by way of Modesto, California where she was a four-year letterwinner at James C. Enochs High School. She compiled 26 goals, 17 shots, 14 assists and 66 points in her varsity career and picked up second team all-conference honors as a sophomore, as well as academic all-conference and all-league first team honors. Gallant also earned junior varsity MVP honors as a freshman.

"Allison is a special player technically," Hanson said. "She is silky on the ball and has a vision for the game that is remarkable.  Her passing ability and positioning are two of her strengths that we can't wait to implement while she is here."

Shallou-Enes, from Turlock, California, gives the Spartans a big scoring threat for 2019. The forward scored at least 22 goals in each of her four seasons of varsity soccer at John H. Pittman High School and was twice-named the Turlock Journal's Player of the Year (2017,2018). She has also picked up all-league honors each season, including first team bids as a freshman and junior, and was named the CCC Best Offensive Player in 2017 and 2018.

"Izzy is remarkably athletic, strong and physical," Hanson said. "She has a vision and drive for goal that is hard to find in players.  She is a true goal scorer and we are excited to see her bring these attributes when she comes in this fall."
