QUICK LOOK AT THE ROADRUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield will play on Tuesday, against Whittier, before traveling to San Jose to take on the Spartans on Saturday. The Roadrunners enter the week with a 2-1 record with wins against Wright State (76-74) and UC Santa Barbara (56-48) and a loss to UTEP (53-47). CSUB posted a 18-14 record last year, 110-4 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play and lost to Fresno State in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament. So far this year, the Roadrunners average 59.7 points a game and give up 58.3, a difference of +21.4 points per game.
CSU Bakersfield has three players scoring in double figures led by Alexxus Gilbert (14.0/g). Gilbert also leads the team in assists (3.0/g). Malayasia McHenry is averaging 11.3 rebounds to pace her squad and along with her 10.0 points is averaging a double double through three games. JJ Johnson tops the team in steals at 1.7 per outing.
Greg McCall is in his eighth season leading the Roadrunners' program. In seven seasons at CSUB he has posted a 106-107 record.
SJSU VS. THE WAC
Overall, San José State is 10-34 (.227 winning percentage) against the current make up of the schools in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Of the nine teams currently in the WAC, the Spartans have played just five. Thirty-three of the 44 games are against New Mexico State, against whom the Spartans are just 5-28. San José State has winning records against Utah Valley (2-0) and Kansas City (1-0).
IT'S A THREE THING
In the 2017-18 season, two Spartans set program records for making three pointers. Analyss Benally (Jr., G, Shiprock, N.M.) sank 60 threes which are the most by a sophomore in program history and are the ninth most by a Spartan in a single season. Coming into the CSU Bakersfield game, her 68 career three-pointers are 33 away from tenth place on the program's career list.
Megan Anderson (So., G, Fresno, Calif.) dropped in 46 treys in 2017-18, a freshman record for San José State women's basketball and 18th most for a single-season in program history. In addition to her freshman record, Anderson led all Mountain West freshmen and was the fourth most accurate freshman three-point shooter in the nation last season at .438 (46-105). Her .438 three-point shooting percentage is also a single-season record for the program.
BALANCED SCORING...JUST NEED MORE OF IT
If you do not include the two players who have averaged less than 10 minutes in the first three contests, six of the remaining nine Spartans average between 7.3 and 9.3 points per game.
