Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State volleyball players Luiza Andrade and Latahevai Lousi have been selected to the 2018 Mountain West Conference volleyball team, while Thaliana Grajeda was named to the MW honorable mention team, as selected by the conference's head volleyball coaches.
Andrade, a senior libero, led the conference in digs in MW matches with 361, 5.08 per set, and was second in the league in service aces with 37 in MW matches. Overall, Andrade led the MW in digs with 498, the fourth-highest total in school history. She finishes her career with 1,653 digs, the second-most in school history and the eighth-highest in MW history. Andrade also ends with 122 service aces, tying for ninth all-time at SJSU and in the top-10 in MW history.
Lousi, a redshirt sophomore outside hitter, led the Spartans with 207 kills in MW play, 3.23 per set. She recorded double-digit kills in 13 of her 16 MW matches played. Lousi also had 46 blocks in MW play. For the season, she led the Spartans in kills with 239, 3.10 ps.
Grajeda, a junior middle blocker, led the Spartan team in blocking during MW play with 67, 0.94 per set. She had a team-high 11 solo blocks and 56 block assists in those 18 matches. Overall, she hit .323 for the season and led San José State with 84 blocks, 0.82 ps.
San José State finished the year with a 16-11 overall record and 11-7 in the MW. The 11 conference wins are the most for SJSU since joining the MW in 2013. The Spartans finished fourth in the MW standings, again the best since joining the MW and the highest finish since the team tied for fourth place in the 2006 WAC standings.
