San Jose, Calif.----- The San Jose State University women's basketball team's bid for its first two-game winning streak of the season was stopped by the University of the Pacific, 91-67, in a non-conference game.
Despite shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the second half, the Spartans (1-4) struggled offensively the first 20 minutes missing their first seven shots and shot just 26.5 percent in the first two quarters. San Jose State, which shot 40.3 percent for the game, trailed 54-24 at halftime.
Fieme'a Hafoka led the Spartans in scoring with a career-high 17 points. Cydni Lewis had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Raziya Potter fouled out midway through the fourth quarter after scoring 10 points and collecting seven rebounds.
Pacific (4-1) made a season-high 11 three-point baskets and won its third in a row with five double-figure scorers for the first time this season. The Tigers' Jessica Blakeslee was 5-of-7 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 21 points. Ameela Li added 19.
San Jose State made it interesting in the second half with a 15-0 run over a 3:55 span in the third quarter to trim a 30-point deficit to 64-49. Guard Danae Marquez and forward Lewis each scored six points during the Spartans' sustained offensive burst.
San Jose State got as close as 71-59 with 5:22 remaining in the fourth quarter after a Lewis' three-point basket. The Tigers closed out the Spartans' hopes with a 13-3 rally covering just under two minutes for a 88-65 lead with 2:55 to go.
San Jose State was outrebounded by Pacific, 53-30.
The Spartans are home again, Sunday, December 2, hosting UC Irvine in a non-conference game at 2:00 p.m.
