Spartans Win 3-1 At Nevada Tuesday Night

Reno, Nev.— Four Spartan hitters led a balanced hitting attack Tuesday night as the San José State volleyball team won 3-1 over Nevada in a Mountain West match at the Virginia Street Gym.
 
Haylee Nelson led all Spartan hitters with 14 kills, followed by Giulia Gávio with 11 kills and Latahevai Lousi and Ryann Thomison with 10 kills each. Thomison also led the team in hitting at .409 (10-1-22).
 
The Spartans outblocked Nevada, 10-8, with Thaliana Grajeda leading the team with a season-high eight blocks, one solo and seven assists. Nelson added three block assists, while Thomison, Lousi and Caitlin Bettenay added two blocks.
 
Luiza Andrade continues to climb the MW career digs list, moving into 10th all-time at 1,579 career digs. She recorded 17 digs in the win and added six assists and a service ace.
 
Two other Spartans recorded double-digit digs – Bettenay with 14 and Sarah Smevog with a season-high 12 digs.
 
San José State improves to 13-11 overall and 8-7 in the MW. The team returns to Spartan Gym this Saturday, November 10, for the final home match of the 2018 season versus Air Force. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
