San Jose, Calif.----- Four San Jose State starters, guards Brae Ivey, Zach Chappell and Seneca Knight, and forward Michael Steadman scored in double figures in their major college debuts leading the Spartans to an 89-72 victory in a non-conference men's basketball game.
Ivey, a junior college transfer from Riverside College, led all players in scoring with 18 points. Knight, a freshman from Lafayette, La., scored 17 and Steadman, a junior college transfer from City College of San Francisco was the leading rebounder with 13 rebounds to go along with 15 points. Chappell and reserve forward Christian Anigwe each added 10.
San Jose State (1-0), with nine new players on its roster, led the entire game. The Spartans were ahead 49-38 at halftime and had as much as a 26-point lead, 76-50, with 8:19 to go in the second half. San Jose State took advantage of its size advantage and outrebounded Life Pacific, 47-19, to create numerous second-chance opportunities on the offensive end.
Guard Andre Allen was Life Pacific's leading scorer with 16 points. Guard Colin Cunniff with 15, and Edgardo Campos, with 12, also scored in double figures for the Warriors (2-1).
San Jose State returns to action, Saturday, November 10, hosting Southern Utah, at The Event Center in a 6:00 p.m. (PT) non-conference contest.
