Three Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Suspended For Conduct Violations

            San José State University seniors Jonathan Partida, Alex Clewis and Zach Penner received institutional suspensions from the men's soccer program based on their actions during and after the Spartans' November 7 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament quarterfinal match hosted by Seattle University. Marie Tuite, the Spartans' director of athletics made the announcement.
 
            "These young men displayed distasteful hand gestures and language and inappropriate behavior towards Seattle University's fans. Their actions do not reflect the standards we set as an athletics department and as a university.  We apologize to the Western Athletic Conference, Seattle University, its men's soccer program, and its fans," said Tuite.
 
            Partida will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
 
            Clewis and Penner are suspended for the Spartans' November 9 WAC semifinal match against UTRGV (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) at 7:00 p.m. (PT). Clewis and Penner can be reinstated for any subsequent matches the remainder of the 2018 season.
