Spartans Continue Strong Performances at Minnesota Invite

Minneapolis, Minn. –––– On the second day of the Minnesota Invitational women's swimming meet, the Spartans performed strongly, building on their successes from day one. Brenna Bushey and Gabby Heng continued to place high in individual events and in the 200 medley relay.

Starting off the evening finals, freshman Chloe Limargo came in fifth place in the 400 IM at 4:27.79. She was followed by Jamie Dodd in ninth place at 4:34.43.

Bushey was third in her specialty, the 100 fly, with a time of 54.06.

Continuing her string of strong performances from the first day of the invitational, Heng placed fifth in the 200 freestyle. Her final time was 1:50.10, shaving 1.85 off her preliminary time.

In the 100 breaststroke, Limargo posted another fifth-place finish coming in at 1:04.59.

Taylor Lehr and Gabriela Vieira, finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Lehr touched at 55.39 and Vieira, 56.22.

A trio of Spartan teams placed in the top six of the 200 medley relay. In third and fourth place, the SJSU A-team (Lehr, Limargo, Bushey, and Heng) finished with 1:42.67, followed by the B-team (Gabriela Vieira, Kate Hanf, Violani Auva'a, Madelyn Sailors) finishing with 1:43.56. The C-team (Makenna Mathieson, Angelika Yngson, Kendal Guy, Antoinette Loya) was sixth with 1:47.62.

"This was a great night for us with many outstanding individual performances that was capped off with three great medley relays," said coach Sage Hopkins, reflecting on the second day of the invitational.

The San Jose State divers will be competing at the Slug Invite hosted by UC Santa Cruz at 10:00 a.m. (PT). The swimmers will be back for the final day of the Minnesota Invitational on December 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. (CT).
