Norman, Okla.----- A tournament winner in September, San Jose State University women's golfer Abigail Arevalo is ranked #25 in the Arnold Palmer Cup women's international rankings for December 2018.
Arevalo, a senior from Manila in the Philippines, won the Coeur d'Alene (Idaho) Invitational in a field of 90 golfers for her second career individual victory as a Spartan. In three more fall tournaments, she was fourth at the Illini Women's Invitational in Medinah, Ill., helped San Jose State to the team championship with her eighth place finish at the season-opening Minnesota Invitational in Woodbury, Minn., and was 20th at the Stanford Invitational.
Her 70.83 stroke average for 12 rounds of competition led the Spartans and placed her 20th in the GolfStat national rankings for scoring average at the end of the fall semester. Arevalo had nine rounds of par or better golf. Her poorest score in an 18-hole round in the fall was just two-over par twice.
Arevalo also was tied 10th nationally in par 4 scoring with a 3.96 average.
The 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup will be a 48-player competition between female and male teams from the United States and an international squad. Women's and men's teams of 12 players each will consist of the top six in the final Spring 2019 Cup rankings, four committee selections, a coach's pick and, for the international side, the 2019 R&A (Royal & Ancient Golf Club of Scotland) Scholars Tournament winners.
The next Arnold Palmer Cup will be played June 7-9 at the Alotian Club in Roland, Ark., a suburb of Little Rock. Players will compete in co-ed four-ball formats the first two days and singles competition the final day.
Founded in 1997 and named after the legendary golfer, these teams will be competing for the 23rd Arnold Palmer Cup, a tournament managed by the Golf Coaches Association of America and Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation. The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup was the first in the series to include collegiate women golfers from the United States and around the world.
