Andy Rios - United Soccer Coaches 3rd Team All-Far West Region

Kansas City, Mo. ----- San Jose State University senior Andy Rios was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region team as a third-team honoree for the second consecutive year.

A co-captain last season from Chowchilla, Calif., Rios was one of two players to start in every game for the Spartans. He led the team in minutes played with 1,891 minutes played and tied for fifth on the team in scoring with two goals and one assist.

Both of Rios' goals came on penalty kicks. His penalty kick goal in the Houston Baptist match late in the second half gave the Spartans a 2-2 tie and a much-needed point in the conference standings to qualify for the WAC Tournament.

"Andy was one of the top defenders on the West Coast," said San Jose State men's soccer head coach Simon Tobin. "It is a deserving honor and I hope he has the opportunity to move to the next level."

The honor is the latest for Rios who was named a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection and to the WAC All-Tournament team for helping the Spartans to the conference tournament's championship game for the second consecutive season.

Recent Spartan All-Far West Region honorees in addition to Rios the last two years include forward Jonathan Colunga, a third-team choice in 2016, and forward Rory Knibbs, a second-team pick in 2015.
