Milers Pace Spartans At King Collegiate Invitational

Albuquerque, N.M.----- San Jose State University's men's and women's distance runners recorded eight top-10 finishes on the final day of the Dr. Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational indoor track and field meet.
 
            Four men and four women had top-10 finishes either in the 800 or the mile run.
 
            For the men, junior Jose Pina and senior Craig Huff, running the indoor mile for the first time, led the charge on the banked track. Pina was sixth in 4:17.65. Huff was eighth with a 4:20.90 clocking.
 
            Javier Ubaldo and Jeffrey Page were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 for San Jose State. Ubaldo crossed the finish line in 1:58.90; Page, 1:58.91.
 
            San Jose State also had entries in the 60-meter dash and the 4x400 relay. Freshman Brendan Manigo was the top Spartan in the 60, placing 14th with a 7.03 time. The 4x400 relay was sixth at 3:28.94.
 
            The next meet for the men's team is the Bronco Challenge hosted by Boise State, Saturday, February 9.
 
            On the women's side, Jennifer Sandoval finished second overall and first among collegiate runners in the mile run with a 5:12.60 clocking. Freshman Evelin Meza, fourth at 5:14.16, and Jeanette Zambrano, seventh at 5:16.80, also were in the top-10.
 
            In the 800, Savanna Perez who ran the 600 on opening night, placed eighth in the 200 at 2:21.03.
 
            Spartan women also competed in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400  relay. Saravaughn King was the fastest San Jose State sprinter in the 60-meter dash with a 7.81 time in the preliminary round. Jayla Williams was clocked in 8.98 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish 16th.
 
            The women's team returns to Albuquerque in two weeks for New Mexico Collegiate Team Invitational, February 1 & 2.
