Annual First Pitch Dinner To Honor Hall Of Famer Ken Caminiti (1963-2004)

SAN JOSE, Calif.  – The San Jose State University baseball team will host its annual First Pitch Dinner on Friday, February 8, at the Three Flames Restaurant in San Jose. The Dinner will kickoff the 2019 season with all Spartan players and coaches in attendance.

The Spartans will honor San Jose State great Ken Caminiti (1963-2004) at the dinner. A 15-year Major League Baseball veteran, Caminiti was a 1983 and 1984 letter-winner at SJSU. In 1984, he led the Spartans in batting average, hits, home runs and RBI en route to earning second-team All-American honors from The Sporting News. He was named to the 1984 USA Olympic baseball team as a reserve and played for Team USA.

Drafted by Houston in the third round of the 1984 Major League Baseball draft, Caminiti split time with four teams (Houston, twice, San Diego, Texas & Atlanta) in his 15-year MLB career. A three-time All-Star, he was named the National League Most Valuable Player in 1996 as a San Diego Padre and earned three-straight Gold Glove Awards from 1995-1997. He is a member of the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame, the San Jose State Sports Hall of Fame and the city of San Jose's Sports Hall of Fame.
