The San José State women's gymnastics team returns to The Event Center this Friday night for the annual Pink Meet and Military Appreciation Night. The Spartans welcome Sacramento State and New Hampshire to the campus.

This is the third of five times the Spartans and Hornets will compete in the same meet. The teams competed twice in Sacramento - January 6 at the NorCal Classic and last Friday night. They are two of the four teams at a California quad meet (Cal and Illinois) on Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. The Spartans and Hornets are two of six teams that will compete for the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship on March 24, hosted by Seattle Pacific.

LAST WEEK
Last Friday, Chelsey Andrada tied a San José State school record, and she and Carli Orcutt each won an event title at Sacramento State. The Spartans scored a 192.500 and lost by just one-tenth of a point to the Hornets at 192.600.
Andrada tied the San José State beam record with a 9.900. She becomes the eighth Spartan to record a 9.900 on the beam and the 11th time a Spartan scored a 9.900 on beam. Andrada added a 9.775 on vault to finish in second place.
Orcutt won her first collegiate event title Friday as she received a season-best 9.800 on vault. She also had a 9.650 on bars and a 9.500 on floor.
SPARTAN COACHING STAFF
Head coach Joanne Bowers begins her first season at the helm of the San José State program. She is the sixth head coach in the program's now 50-year history in August of 2018. From 2007 to 2016, Bowers was the head women's gymnastics coach at the University of Washington.
James Williams and Jeffrey Langenstein are in their first season as assistant coaches for the Spartans after joining the program in September of 2018. Chelsea Spomer is in her second year with the program, serving as the director of operations for the 2019 season.

Two Spartans have won four MPSF weekly honors this season.

Carli Orcutt received her second MPSF Freshman of the Week honor on February 5. She, competed on vault, bars and floor in a home meet with UC Davis and Boise State last Friday night. Starting the night on vault, she recorded a season-best 9.725 and also helped the vault team score a season-best 48.475. Moving to bars, she recorded a 9.725, her second-highest score of the season. On floor, Orcutt scored a 9.650 for the Spartans.
Her other Freshman of the Week honor came on January 22. She helped the team to a 193.225-189.800 win at Southeast Missouri. Orcutt started the night with a season-best 9.750 on bars and followed that up with a 9.700 on vault. She then made her debut on floor in the third rotation with a 9.725. For the meet, she was third on bars, tied for fourth on vault and tied for sixth on floor.
Taylor Chan has received the MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors twice this year. At Boise State on January 13, Chan tied her career-best score in the all-around with a 39.175. Chan led the team on the bars with a 9.800, the beam with a 9.825 and the floor with a 9.800. She tied for second in the all-around, tied for third on floor and tied for fourth on beam.
At the NorCal Classic on January 6, Chan finished second in the all-around at the NorCal Classic with a 39.025 Sunday afternoon. She was second to Stanford's Kyla Bryant who won every event and the all-around. Chan tied for first on floor with Bryant with a 9.900, and added a 9.800 on beam, 9.700 on vault and 9.625 on bars. Her 39.025 in the all-around was her fifth 39.000+ score in the all-around during her Spartan career.
ANDRADA TIES BEAM RECORD
Chelsey Andrada scored a 9.900 on beam at Sacramento State on February 8 to tie the San José State school record. She is now one of eight Spartans to receive a 9.900 which has happened 11 times in school history. The last to do it before Andrada was her teammate Taylor Chan who did it her freshman year at the MPSF Championships.

VAULT TEAM RISES TO TOP THE PAST TWO MEETS
The Spartan vault team has recorded a season-best 48.475 in each of the past two meets. Last week, Carli Orcutt won her first collegiate event title as she led the Spartans with a 9.800.
In a home meet with UC Davis and Boise State the previous week, Chelsey Andrada led the team as she tied her career high with a 9.875. The reigning MPSF Vault Champion, her score tied the third-highest score in school history.
SPARTANS WITH FLOOR BEST AT SEMO
The Spartan floor team recorded a season-best 48.825 in the win at Southeast Missouri on January 18. Taylor Chan led the team as she tied first with a 9.90. Freshman Jasmine Henley had a season-best 9.8000, while fellow freshman Carli Orcutt recorded a 9.725 in her first collegiate floor routine. Josalyn Ray and Stephanie Relova each had a 9.700, and Chelsey Andrada had a 9.675.
CHAN TIES FOR FLOOR TITLE AT NORCAL CLASSIC
Taylor Chan started the 2019 season by tying for first on the floor with a 9.900 at the NorCal Classic. She tied with Kyla Bryant of Stanford for the first event title of the season.
