The San José State women's gymnastics team travels up Interstate 80 for a meet with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe UC Davis Friday night at The Pavilion.
This is the third of four times the teams will compete against each other this season. The teams competed January 6 at the NorCal Classic and February 1 at The Event Center. The Spartans and Aggies are two of six teams that will compete for the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship on March 24, hosted by Seattle Pacific.
UC Davis prevailed over the Spartans in the earlier two meetings, 194.950-193.300 at the NorCal Classic and 194.525-194.175 at The Event Center.

LAST WEEK
Last Friday, three Spartans won or tied for event titles, and the San José State scored a season-best 194.400 in a tri-meet with Sacramento State and New Hampshire at The Event Center.
Kaprece Nadonza started the winning for the Spartans on the bars as she tied with two others with a season-best 9.875. It is also the team's top score on bars this season. This was her second career bars win, the other coming in 2017.
Josalyn Ray then tied with New Hampshire's Lauren Diggan on beam for first. Ray scored a career-best 9.825, smashing her previous high of 9.700. This beam title was the first in her career and her second overall as she won a vault title in 2016.
Taylor Chan then rounded out the winning with her fourth 9.900 on floor this season. It is also her fourth floor title of the season.
SPARTAN COACHING STAFF
Head coach Joanne Bowers is in her first season at the helm of the San José State program. She is the sixth head coach in the program's now 50-year history in August of 2018. From 2007 to 2016, Bowers was the head women's gymnastics coach at the University of Washington.
James Williams and Jeffrey Langenstein are in their first season as assistant coaches for the Spartans after joining the program in September of 2018. Chelsea Spomer is in her second year with the program, serving as the director of operations for the 2019 season.

Three Spartans have won six MPSF weekly honors this season.

Kaprece Nadonza was named the MPSF Specialist of the Week on February 19. She tied for first on bars with a season-best 9.875, her best bars score since the MPSF Championship meet in 2017. Nadonza won just her second bars title of her collegiate career.
Carli Orcutt has received MPSF Freshman of the Week honorsthree times this season, the latest occurring on February 19. In a meet with Sacramento State and New Hampshire, she tied for second on vault with a 9.775 and added a 9.725 on bars and a 9.550 on floor.
She received her second MPSF Freshman of the Week honor on February 5. In a home meet with UC Davis and Boise State, Orcutt recorded a 9.725 on vault and helped the vault team score a season-best 48.475. She added a 9.725 on bars and a 9.650 on floor
Her other Freshman of the Week honor came on January 22. She helped the team to a win at Southeast Missouri. Orcutt started the night with a 9.750 on bars and followed that up with a 9.700 on vault. She then made her debut on floor in the third rotation with a 9.725. For the meet, she was third on bars, tied for fourth on vault and tied for sixth on floor.
Taylor Chan has received the MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors twice this year. At Boise State on January 13, Chan tied her career-best score in the all-around with a 39.175. Chan led the team on the bars with a 9.800, the beam with a 9.825 and the floor with a 9.800. She tied for second in the all-around, tied for third on floor and tied for fourth on beam.
At the NorCal Classic on January 6, Chan finished second in the all-around at the NorCal Classic with a 39.025. Chan tied for first on floor with a 9.900, and added a 9.800 on beam, 9.700 on vault and 9.625 on bars.
ANDRADA TIES BEAM RECORD
Chelsey Andrada scored a 9.900 on beam at Sacramento State on February 8 to tie the San José State school record. She is now one of eight Spartans to receive a 9.900 which has happened 11 times in school history. The last to do it before Andrada was her teammate Taylor Chan who did it in 2017 at the MPSF Championships.

VAULT TEAM POSTING SOLID SCORES
The Spartan vault team recorded a season-best 48.475 twice this season - in a home meet with Boise State and UC Davis and at Sacramento State. At the home meet, Chelsey Andrada led the team as she tied her career high with a 9.875. The reigning MPSF Vault Champion, her score tied the third-highest score in school history. At Sacramento State, Carli Orcutt won her first collegiate event title as she led the Spartans with a 9.800.
BARS TEAM SHINES IN HOME MEET
The Spartan bars team scored a season-best 48.825 in a home meet with New Hampshire and Sacramento State on February 15. Kaprece Nadonza led the team with a 9.875 to tie for first place. She was followed by Stephanie Relova at 9.825, Nikki Duggan at 9.775, Carli Orcutt at 9.725, Taylor Chan at 9.625 and Tia Gin at 9.400.
SPARTANS WITH FLOOR BEST AT SEMO
The Spartan floor team recorded a season-best 48.825 in the win at Southeast Missouri on January 18. Taylor Chan led the team as she tied first with a 9.90. Freshman Jasmine Henley had a season-best 9.8000, while fellow freshman Carli Orcutt recorded a 9.725 in her first collegiate floor routine. Josalyn Ray and Stephanie Relova each had a 9.700, and Chelsey Andrada had a 9.675.
CHAN 9.900 = FOUR FLOOR WINS
Taylor Chan likes to win on the floor when she scores a 9.900. In the four meets she scored a 9.900, she won or tied for first. Her latest floor title came in a home meet with Sacramento State and New Hampshire.
