Pedrero Galindo A Singles Winner vs. #26-Washington

Santa Barbara, Calif.----- Freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo continued her winning ways for the San Jose State University women's tennis team with a straight-set singles victory in the Spartans' 4-1 loss to #26-Washington at the UCSB Rec Cen Courts.

Pedrero Galindo notched her team-leading 13th singles triumph of the year defeating Natsuho Arakawa of Washington, 6-3, 6-4 at #4-singles. Arakawa had come into the match with a 54-26 singles record playing her first two seasons at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Washington.

"Alba continues to compete hard each day and her results show this," said San Jose State women's tennis coach Chad Skorupka about the Spartans' first-year player from Murica, Spain.

Playing its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, San Jose State yielded the doubles point to the Huskies, losing each of the three matches by the identical score, 6-3.

Washington (9-1) took a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard after its #1-singles player Stacey Fung defeated San Jose State's Tamara Culibbrk, 6-0, 6-0.

Pedrero Galindo posted her singles win before the Huskies' Vanessa Wong and Sedona Gallagher won straight-set matches with a second-set tiebreaker over Miyo Kobayashi and Laura Malsert, respectively to clinch the match and deal San Jose State (4-1) its first loss of the season.

"We played tough until the end as we had a couple of match still live," Skorupka said. Klara Milojkovic and her opponent Nika Zupancic split sets and were headed to a deciding third set at #6-singles and Savannah Sendar was headed to a second-set tiebreaker at #3-singles when the Huskies claimed the win.

"We put ourselves in position to win matches and need to continue to do so tomorrow against Santa Barbara."

The Spartans conclude their weekend trip to Santa Barbara with a 10:00 a.m. dual match against the host Gauchos (3-3), which lost to Washington, 4-3, on February 22.
