Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Brenna Bushey, the fourth-place finisher in the Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships 100 butterfly, headlines five San Jose State University student-athletes named to the 2019 All-Mountain West team.
Bushey, a senior from Littleton, Colo., earned her fourth All-Mountain West honor in her specialty event by posting a school-record qualifying time of 52.76, 0.34 seconds faster than her previous record of 53.10 at the 2018 Mountain West Championships.
She earned a second 2019 all-conference award swimming the final leg of San Jose State's third-place 200 freestyle relay team. Teammates Antoinette Loya, Madelyn Sailors and Taylor Lehr preceded Bushey in the race. The Spartans posted a season-best time of 1:31.75, #4 on the Spartans' top-10 list.
Gabby Heng earned her first All-Mountain West award for her fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a career best time of 49.99 seconds.
Swimming and diving student-athletes earned All-Mountain West honors by finishing in the top-eight in an individual event or the top-three in a relay race at the conference championship meet.
"Our team performance last week was among the best in my 14 years at San Jose State. And, it was our best performance (at a conference championship) since 2012 (when San Jose State was a member of the Western Athletic Conference)," said Sage Hopkins, the Spartans women's swimming and diving head coach.
"I'm proud of our five all-conference honorees and am excited to see what they will accomplish during the post season."
Bushey will be the first one back in the pool competing in the Pac-12 Invitational in Seattle, Wash., on March 2. A number of Spartans will be on their way to the second annual National Invitational Championships set for Cleveland, Ohio, March 13 through March 16.
