SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State women's soccer has added a pair of outstanding players to their 2019 roster as early enrollees, head coach Lauren Hanson announced. Midfielder Sabrina Weinman and forward Sylvia Sloss have joined the team and are currently going through spring practice.
Weinman, a native of Bakersfield, California, played four years of varsity soccer at South High School and garnered first team All-Area honors as a junior and first team All-League honors as a freshman and sophomore. Weinman scored 15 goals and tallied 13 assists as a junior and was named the league offensive MVP. She also ran cross country and track for three years.
"We are thrilled to have such a technically savvy midfielder start her collegiate career early and gain valuable experience this spring," head coach Lauren Hanson said. "She is a student of the game and has the engine of a lion and we look forward to her making an impact for our program in the future."
Sloss joins the Spartans after playing one season at the University of San Francisco. The Penryn, California product appeared in 10 games last season with two starts. She tallied 240 minutes on the pitch and attempted five shots, two on-goal.
"We are excited about the experience Sylvia brings having already played a season under her belt and knowing the division one level," Hanson said.
Sloss excelled at multiple sports at Del Oro High School in Loomis, California, lettering in soccer, basketball, golf and track. A three-year letter-winner in soccer, she helped lead her squad to two section championships and was named first team all-league all three seasons. As a junior, Sloss scored nine goals and had 23 assists, and finished her high school career with 32 goals.
