Baseball Shutout At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif.  –  San Jose State baseball dropped to 9-7 on the season after falling to Cal 13-0 in a Tuesday night nonconference game at Evans Diamond. The Spartans tallied just four hits in the loss.

Cal led just 2-0 before exploding for five runs in the fourth inning and six more in the seventh to walk away with the win. Six Golden Bears tallied multi-hit nights. Centerfielder Max Flower led the way with four RBI on two hits.

Connor Konishi, who got the start on the mound, led the Spartans with two hits while Kellen Strahm and Johnny Mendoza tallied the Spartans' only other base hits. Konishi, responsible for giving up the game's first two runs in 3.0 innings of work, was charged with the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year.

The Spartans used six arms out of the bullpen. Zach Wallace pitched 2.0 innings with one run allowed while Anders Davidson and Travis Sanders each pitched a scoreless inning.

Cal reliever Lucas Gather, the first arm out of the bullpen, improved to 1-0 after taking the bump for starter Jared Horn after two innings.

SJSU returns to action this weekend against UNLV. First pitch of Friday's game is slated for 6:00 p.m. PT.
