Spartans Drop Midweek Contest At Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  –  San Jose State baseball fell on the road xx-xx to Sacramento State in a midweek nonconference game played at John Smith Field on Tuesday.

The Spartans drop to 12-8 overall on the season but hold a 6-3 mark in conference play to lead the league. Sacramento State, now riding a nine-game winning streak, improved to 13-7.

SJSU struck for the first two runs in the first inning. Alex Davis walked with the bases loaded and Kellen Strahm scored from third on a wild pitch. That would be only runs in the score column for the Spartans as the Hornets limited the potent SJSU offense to just one hit, a double by Strahm in the first.

Sacramento State tallied 11 hits and scored seven unanswered runs beginning with a three-run home run off the bat of Mar Vincelli-Simard in the third inning. Vincelli-Simard tallied his fourth RBI in the fourth on a single to left to start the fifth. The Hornets added three more runs in the frame in the form of back-to-back sacrifice flies and another RBI single.

Spartans' starting pitcher Connor Konishi (0-2) was charged with the loss after 4.0 innings of work allowing three runs on five hits and striking out a pair. Anders Davidson, Zach Wallace, Nicholas Morales and Jackson Ertz all saw the mound in relief duty.

Parker Brahms (2-2) picked up the win for the Hornets as the pitcher of record in the third. Dawsen Bacho led the Sacramento offense with a 4-for-4 night at the plate.

SJSU returns to the diamond for a Mountain West weekend series at Fresno State Friday through Sunday. Friday's first pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. PT.
