#19-Spartans Lose, 10-7, To #18-Harvard

Saratoga, Calif.----- Sophomore Lili Urvari was the only multi-goal scorer for the San Jose State University women's water polo team in a 10-7 non-conference loss to #18-Harvard.

Urvari scored twice as the #19-ranked Spartans (7-9) trailed the entire match to the Crimson, which now has a three-match winning streak on its five-match Northern California tour. Isabella Schmidt, Sierra Painter, Matilda Moore, Olga Descalzi Portell and Tyanna Supreme also scored for San Jose State.

The Spartans trailed, 4-0, after the first quarter before Schmidt scored for the San Jose State. Harvard took advantage of two Spartan ejections and a 5-meter penalty foul to gain control of the match with a pair of power-play scores and a penalty shot conversion by Kristen Hong, who led all players with three goals, for a 3-0 lead with 1:05 remaining in the first quarter.

San Jose State never got closer than three goals the rest of the way. The Spartans were unable to take advantage of their power play opportunities going 1-for-8 while Harvard converted 7-of-10 chances.

Hannah Henry was credited with eight saves in goal for the Spartans. Harvard goalkeeper Sam Acker also stopped eight San Jose State shots.

The Spartans close out the week hosting #4-California in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, Saturday, March 23, at noon inside the West Valley College Aquatic Center.
