#19-Spartans Play #-4 Cal Tough In Second Half Before Losing, 10-6

Saratoga, Calif.——Olga Descalzi Portell scored three of #19 San Jose State's goals against #4 California but it was the Golden Bears' five goals at the start of the match that propelled Cal to a 10-6 women's water polo win in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.

Descalzi Portell became the first Spartan since 2016 to reach the 40-goal plateau with her second goal of the match. The freshman from Terressa, Spain, now has 41 goals for the season.

Other Spartans scorers were Lili Urvari, Matilda Moore, and Tyanna Supreme on a five-meter penalty shot.

Elli Protopapas was Cal's top scorer with three goals to match Descalzi Portell for match-high scoring honors.

Goalkeeper Hannah Henry, was credited with ten saves for the Spartans (7-10, 0-2 MPSF). Cal goalkeepers, Madison Tagg and Cassidy Ball, combined for ten saves between them. Tagg made four and Ball, six, as the Golden Bears won their third match in a row.

The Spartans return to action Saturday, March 30 at the Arizona State University Invitational. Their first match is against Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.
