Chan Selected To Compete At NCAA Corvallis Regional

Indianapolis, Ind.— San José State University women's gymnast Taylor Chan will compete in the all-around at the 2019 NCAA Corvallis Regional on Saturday, April 6.

Chan, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Around champion, will compete at a regional for the third consecutive year. She qualified for postseason competition with a 39.200 national qualifying score in the all-around. Chan scored a career-best 39.300 in the all-around this past Saturday to win the conference all-around title. She has scored a 39.000 or better in the all-around in nine meets this season and won six all-around titles.

At the regional, Chan will compete in the second session on April 6, beginning at 7 p.m. She will rotate with the Stanford team and will begin the meet on floor, followed by vault, bars and beam.

The top 36 teams based on NQS were selected for regional competition. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Seeding determined at the time of selections will be maintained through the championship. Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of the four regional sites.

The list of all-arounders and individual event specialists included individual qualifying scores from the teams competing in the first round to ensure those individuals will compete in the individual competition, regardless of whether their teams advance from the first round.

Individuals will compete in the second round at regionals. Scores achieved in the second round will be used to determine advancing individuals once the regional final is finished (to account for individuals on teams that are eliminated in the regional final) and then the top all-arounder (not on an advancing team) and top specialist for each event (not on an advancing team) will advance to the national championship, in that event only. This method ensures 4 all-arounders and 16 specialists advance to the championship.
