Spartan Men Tied For 7th After 36 Holes Of Oregon Duck Invitational

Creswell, Ore.----- San Jose State University golfer Kevin Velo continued his consistent play with a pair of even par 72's leading the Spartans to a 7th place tie after 36 holes of the Oregon Duck Invitational at the Emerald Valley Golf Club.
 
            Velo, who has matched or been under par in nine of 11 rounds this spring, is in a six-way tie for sixth place individually in the field of 16 teams and 88 golfers on the par 72, 7,145-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club course. The Spartan senior is four strokes behind tournament leader Cameron Kaneko of Hawaii who was the only golfer in the field with an under-par score in each of his first two rounds, 71 and 69, for his 140.
 
            As a team, San Jose State posted a 593 score and is tied the University of San Francisco. Oregon State and host Oregon share the team lead heading into the final round with 577 totals. First-round leader Nevada is third at 580.
 
            Besides Velo, junior Sean Yu is in the top-20 tied for 19th place at 146. Yu and San Francisco's Toby Briggs at three-under were the best players in the field playing the par-4 holes on the first day of the tournament.
 
            Bryce Wortman at 151; Nate Jetter, at 154; and Matt Heitel at 156 rounded the San Jose State individual scores for the day.
 
            The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday, March 26, with an 18-hole shotgun start beginning at 8:15 a.m.
