Stanford, Calif.----- Bryce Wortman continued his consistent scoring and Kevin Velo bounced back from a rough first round as San Jose State moved into a tenth-place tie heading into the final round of The Goodwin men's golf tournament.
Wortman, who opened the tournament with an even par 70, was one-over par in round two with a 71 on the par 70, 6,742-yard Stanford University Golf Course. Velo matched Wortman's 71 after posting an opening round 75.
The Spartans also counted 73's from Nate Jetter and Sean Yu. For Jetter, it was a season-best for the second round in a row after a first-round 74.
San Jose State has a 36-hole total of 579 and is tied with Colorado for tenth place in the 27-team field. The Spartans head into the final round ahead of seven teams ranked in GolfStat's top-50.
Host Stanford is the team leader with a 558 total. Southern California is second at 565. Only 10 shots separate sixth-place Florida at 574 from 16th place Nevada at 584.
Southern California's Kaito Onishi moved into the individual lead with the low score of the day, a four-under 66. He has a 135 total and is two strokes ahead of California's Collin Morikawa at 137. Nine players in the 135-player field are under par.
Wortman's 141 puts him in a 15th place tie.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on March 30. San Jose State has the same tee times for round three as it did for round two starting at 12:25 p.m. from the 10th hole. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
