Spartans Drop Series Finale 6-0 At Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill.  –  San Jose State baseball was defeated 6-0 at Northwestern as the Wildcats completed the series sweep Sunday at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

The Spartans (14-14) were unable to find much success against Northwestern starter Mike Doherty who gave up just two hits in a 5.0 inning outing. The Wildcat bullpen also found success as they closed the final four innings with no hits allowed and issued just one walk.

SJSU starter Connor Konishi dropped to 0-3 on the season. He gave up two runs on five hits in 4.0 innings. Anders Davidson, Zach Wallace, Nicholas Morales and Jackson Ertz also spent time on the bump in the loss.

The Wildcats (10-13) played small ball in the first six innings, plating two runs in the second inning on a RBI groundout and single, and two more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and another RBI single.

Northwestern then tacked on some insurance off the bat of Willie Bourbon as belted a 2-run home run to centerfield in the seventh to take the 6-0 lead.

The Spartans finished with just two base hits. Santiago Cantu tallied the first in the second and Blake Berry had the other in the fourth.

SJSU has one more road game on their 10-game road trip, although this one will be played much closer to home Tuesday against USF in San Francisco.
