Stanford, Calif.----- Matt Heitel and Sean Yu posted their best scores for the final round as San Jose State University finished 13th at the Stanford Invitational men's golf tournament.
Heitel signed for an even par 70 and Yu had a one-over 71 on the par 70, 6,758-yard Stanford University Golf Course. The Spartans also counted Bryce Wortman's 73 and Nate Jetter's 75 for a final round team score of 289 and an 868 total.
Host Stanford was the team champion with an 832 score, 18 strokes better than runner-up Southern California at 850. Oklahoma was third at 854.
San Jose State missed out on a top-10 team finish by one stroke. Brigham Young, Northwestern, Nevada and Oregon tied for ninth place in the 27-team field with 867 team scores. The Spartans did finish ahead of five top-50 ranked teams in GolfStat's NCAA Division I national weekly rankings.
Stanford teammates Brandon Wu and David Snyder tied at four-under par 206 after 54 holes. Wu won a playoff for medalist honors. Only eight players in the 135-plyaer field matched or bettered par.
Bryce Wortman notched his first top-20 finish of tying for 19th place at 214. Yu tied for 37th at 216. Kevin Velo and Nate Jetter tied for 70th at 222 and Heitel tied for 75th at 223.
After six rounds of competitive golf on two courses in two states over six days, the Spartans are next in action hosting the 73rd annual Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf, Monday through Wednesday, April 13-15, at the Pasatiempo Golf Club. The GOLF Channel will have 18 hours of coverage during the 54-hole tournament.
