Spartans Co-Host Silicon Valley Classic II This Week

San Jose, Calif. – The San José State softball team plays co-host of the inaugural Silicon Valley Classic II this weekend in the San José State Softball Complex.  Nine games will be played between Thursday, March 7 and Sunday, March 10.
 
The tournament is being co-hosted by Santa Clara University and teams will play games at both schools.

Quick Look At The Spartans (10-7)
After the first three weeks of the season, San José State had a 9-5 record, but after going 1-2 at last weekend's San Diego Classic, it now sit at 10-7 overall.
 
Sophomore Rayohna Sagapolu leads the team with a 367 batting average (11-for-30).  Arianna Miranda, a freshman, is batting .348 (16-for-46) and leads the team with 13 RBIs and three homers.  Junior Makayla Englestad is the third Spartan hitting better than .300.  She batting .340 (17-for-50) and leads the team with 13 runs and is tied for the lead with four doubles and two triples. As a team, the Spartans are hitting .239, are 2-for-2 in stolen bases and are fielding at a .952 pace.
 
In the circle, the Spartans have a team ERA of 3.78 with sophomore Caroline Bowman and freshman Jenessa Ullegue posting 4-2 records.  Ullegue has two saves, a team-high six starts and 10 total appearances with a 2.52 ERA.  In 41-2 innings she has 25 strikeouts, 15 walks and opposing batters are hitting .213 off her.  Bowman has tossed 31.1 innings, has struck out 23 with just four walks. She has a 3.35 ERA in five starts and seven total appearances and batters are hitting .289 off her.  
 
Opponent Previews
Cal State Fullerton (12-7)
Cal State Fullerton posted a 9-6 record through the first three weeks and went 3-1 last weekend in the Judi Garman Classic. 
 
As a team, CSF is batting .256 through its first 19 games.  Hitting .436, Ari Williams has the team's highest batting average and the team lead with 18 RBIs and five homers.  The Titans are 11-for-17 in stolen base attempts and have a fielding percentage of .976.
 
In the circle, Cal State Fullerton has a team ERA of 3.31 with Sophie Frost posting a 6-2 record and a 3.45 ERA in four starts and 14 total appearances.  She has tossed 48.2 innings, struck out 32 while walking 31, and batters are hitting .213 off her.
 
This will be the 45th meeting between these two programs.  San José State trails the Titans 32-12 in the all-time series.
 
UC Davis (13-4)
UC Davis posted an 11-3 record through the first three weeks and went 2-1 last weekend's rain soaked San Diego Classic.
 
As a team, UC Davis is batting .291 through its first 17 games.  Hitting .367, Isabella Leon has the team's highest batting average.  The power comes form Megan Bower, who is tied the team lead with 15 RBIs, and has five homers.  The Aggies are 10-for-16 in stolen base attempts and have a fielding percentage of .969.
 
In the circle, UCD has a team ERA of 2.35 with Brooke Yanez posting a 9-1 record and a 1.38 ERA in eight starts and 11 total appearances.  She has tossed 56.0 innings, struck out 80 while walking 22, and batters are hitting .199 off her.
 
This will be the 15th meeting between these two programs.  San José State leads the Aggies 10-4 in the all-time series.
 
CSUN (6-11)
CSUN posted a 4-9 record through the first three weeks and went 2-2 last weekend in the Judi Garman Classic. 
 
As a team, CSUN is batting .212 through its first 17 games.  Hitting .447, Megan Stevens has the team's highest batting average, is tied for the team-lead with 10 RBI and tops the squad with eight doubles.  The Matadors are 8-for-12 in stolen base attempts and have a fielding percentage of .950.
 
In the circle, CSUN has a team ERA of 5.25 with Jillian James posting a 3-5 record and a 3.68 ERA in ten starts.  She has tossed 58.2 innings, struck out 79 while walking 27, and batters are hitting .208 off her.
 
This will be the 20th meeting between these two programs.  San José State trails the Matadors 15-4 in the all-time series.
 
Weber State Wildcats (4-9)
Weber State was 3-7 heading into last weekend's rain soaked San Diego Classic.  They played three games and went 1-2.
 
As a team, Weber State is batting .283 through 13 games.  Hitting .417 in 13 games, Landy Hawker has the team's highest batting average and has scored a team-best seven times.  The power comes from Chloe Camarero, who has eight RBIs and four doubles.  The Wildcats are 9-for-12 in stolen base attempts and have a fielding percentage of .951.
 
In the circle, Weber State has a team ERA of 10.09 with Tatiana Su'esu'e posting a 3-3 record and a 4.40 ERA in nine starts and 11 total appearances.  She has tossed 47.0 innings, struck out 15 while walking 17, and batters are hitting .247 off her.
 
This will be the fifth meeting between these two programs.  The all-time series is tied 2-2, with the Wildcats taking the last two matchups.
