Spartans Held To Three Hits in 3-0 Loss At SDSU

San Diego, Calif.—The Spartan softball team managed just three hits on Sunday as San José State fell at San Diego State, 3-0, in series final at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
 
Jenessa Ullegue recorded two of the three Spartan hits. She started the second inning with a single through the left side but was out on the next play as Cassidy Clark hit a grounder to the short stop. Ullegue also singled up the middle in the fourth inning but was out on the next play.
 
Jacey Phipps recorded the team's only other hit with her first triple of the season in the top of the seventh inning. However, she was left stranded as third base as the final two Spartan batters flied and lined out to end the game.
 
The Spartans faced Aztec pitcher Marissa Moreno for the second time in three days. Friday night, Moreno gave up five hits and seven walks to San José State.  Sunday, she held the Spartans to just three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
 
Spartan freshman pitcher Chrys Hildebrand pitched three innings and allowed all three runs, two earned, as her record fell to 3-3 on the season. She faced 15 batters, allowed one walk and did not record a strikeout. Caroline Bowman pitched three innings in relief, allowing only two hits and striking out four.
 
San José State is now 27-14 on the season and 7-5 in the Mountain West. The team plays Thursday, Friday and Saturday at UNLV.
