Colorado Springs, Colo.----- For finishing tied for first and helping his San Jose State University finish third in a 13-team field at the 73rd Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf tournament, junior Sean Yu was named the Mountain West Men's Golfer Player of the Week for tournaments played between April 12-18.
Yu posted an eight-under par 202 over three days on the par 70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club course in Santa Cruz, Calif. He opened the longest-standing men's golf tournament with a six-under 64 in the first of three rounds, his career best for an 18-hole score.
His 202 tied him for first place with Stanford's Isaiah Salinda after 54 holes. The two players played five sudden-death playoff holes. After each player parred each of the first four holes, Salinda won the playoff with a short birdie putt on the fifth playoff hole. The five-hole playoff was the longest in tournament history.
Yu's previous best finish was a fifth at the 2018 Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal in Fairfax, Calif.
"It's much deserved. He played brilliantly at the Western," said San Jose State men's golf coach John Kennaday about Yu receiving the conference award based on his play at the 73rd Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf and televised nationally by The GOLF Channel.
