Saratoga, Calif.----- Lily Urvari, Riley Agerbeek and Matilda Moore were the goal scorers for #18-San Jose State University in a 13-3 loss to #3-UCLA in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women's water polo match at West Valley College.
Bronte Halligan of the Bruins led all players with four goals and scored two of the first three scores of the match to give UCLA (21-4, 4-1 MPSF), a 3-0 lead, before Urvari scored her 30th of the season with 3:54 remaining in the second quarter to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. Urvari became the third San Jose State player this season to reach the 30-goal plateau joining leading scorer Olga Descalzi Portell, who has 48, and Tyanna Supreme, second with 32.
The teams traded scores with Lizette Rozeboom scoring for UCLA and Riley Agerbeek finding the cage for San Jose State (9-12, 1-3 MPSF) keeping the Bruins ahead, 4-2. UCLA scored the next four goals to close out the second quarter and the start of the third quarter before Moore scored for the Spartans.
UCLA took good advantage of its power-play chances converting 4-of-10 and added a Maddie Musselman penalty shot conversion. San Jose State went 0-for-8 when it was on the power play.
Hannah Henry was credited with seven saves in the three quarters she played in goal for the Spartans. Anna Maria Luther finished up the match and was not credited with a save.
UCLA goalkeeper Carlie Kapana stopped three San Jose State shots playing just the first half. Jahmea Bent played the second half and stopped seven Spartan shots.
San Jose State closes out its home schedule, Saturday, April 13, at noon, hosting Indiana University in a MPSF match at the West Valley College Aquatic Center. It will be Senior Day. Michelle Taikeff, the team's only senior and the 2019 Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar women's water polo national scholar-athlete award winner, will be honored.
