Indianapolis, Ind.----- Three San Jose State University intercollegiate athletics teams are recipients of a NCAA Public Recognition Award for academic success based on the Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for the 2017-18 school year according to data released by the NCAA.
The women's golf, women's gymnastics, and beach volleyball teams earned the maximum possible score of 1,000 to receive the NCAA's Public Recognition Award given to schools with programs that rank in the top 10 percent of their respective sports.
"I continue to be impressed with their consistent outstanding academic performance," said Eileen Daley, San Jose State University's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Services about the three award-winning programs.
"I'm also very optimistic about our future reports. We have a department goal set at 985 (out of a 1,000). That's our goal for a target score when combining all of our individual sports programs' scores and we will reach that goal."
First implemented in 2003, the APR provides a real-time measurement of a team's academic success each semester by tracking scholarship student-athletes in the areas of eligibility, retention and graduation. A score of 930 out of 1,000 projects to a 50 percent graduation rate.
More than 1,300 NCAA Division I teams from 321 NCAA Division I institutions earned a 2019 Public Recognition Award. The most recent APR multi-year scores are based on the four-year period that includes the 2015 through 2018 academic years.
Women's golf and women's gymnastics are award winners for the third consecutive year. Beach volleyball is an award winner for the second year in a row.
APR scores for all of San Jose State University's NCAA Division I athletics programs will be released on May 8.
