San Jose, Calif.—Jenessa Ullegue recorded her 16th win of the season, and Madison Aurin and Arianna Miranda each had two hits to lead the San José State softball team to a 3-0 win over Nevada Thursday afternoon in a Mountain West game at the Spartan Softball Field.
Ullegue pitched her 13th complete game of the season in the win. She allowed just four hits, did not give up a walk and struck out five of the 23 batters faced. Her record improved to 16-4 on the season with a 1.81 ERA.
Aurin recorded her 200th hit of her career with a single to left field in the bottom of the first inning. She added a double in the bottom of the fifth to score Sagapolu from second.
The Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Cassidy Clark started the inning with a walk, followed by a Miranda single through the left side. With one out, Alyssa Graham singled through the right side to load the bases.
Rayohna Sagapolu walked on five pitches to score Clark from third. Miranda scored on the next play as Kristen Heffley hit a hard ball that bounced off the Nevada pitcher's arm for a single. But, the Spartans left the bases loaded as Aurin hit into a fielder's choice as Heffley was out at second.
Defense was on display for the Spartans as well during the game. With a runner on second base in the third for Nevada, the Wolf Pack hitter hit a line drive to Sagapolu at short who grabbed the ball and then threw back to second for the double play.
