Colorado Springs. Colo.----- Mountain West men's steeplechase champion Craig Huff off San Jose State University and the Spartans' 4x400 men's relay team were named to all-conference in the sport of track and field by virtue of their finishes at the recently completed conference outdoor championship meet.
Huff became the first San Jose State men's track and field athlete in 34 years to win an individual event championship at a conference meet. He crossed the finish line first in the 3000-meter steeplechase timed in 8:48.02. His winning time was the second fastest in Mountain West championship history.
The 4x400 men's relay team of Dominic Tanner, Peter Handy, Jeffrey Page and Aidan Jardon was awarded third place in the event after the University of New Mexico was disqualified. The Spartan foursome, running together for the first time in the outdoor season, posted a team season best of 3:16.66, nearly three seconds faster than the team's previous 2019 best of 3:19.62 set at the Hornet Invitational at the start of the outdoor season.
A top-three conference championship finish was necessary to earn All-Mountain West honors in outdoor track and field.
Huff and the 4x400 relay team are the first San Jose State men's track and field athletes to be named All-Mountain West since the Spartans are in their first season in the conference.
