Austin, Texas----- The San Jose State University men's golf team dropped one spot in the team standings to ninth place in the 14-team field heading into the final round of the NCAA Division I Austin (Texas) Regional Championship.
The Spartans have a 36-hole total of 594 on the par 71, 7,355 yard University of Texas Golf Club course. In the second round, San Jose State posted a 303 team score.
Host Texas turned in the best team score of the day and the tournament in the second0round with a 10-under par 274 for a 552 total. Pepperdine and Clemson are tied for second at 568. TCU at 572 and Arkansas, at 573, round out the top five teams.
In the 14-team field, the top-five finishing teams and the leading individual not connected with those teams advance to the NCAA Championships hosted by Arkansas at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., May 24-29.
Senior Kevin Velo posted the low score of the day for San Jose State with a two-over 73. He has a 144 total and is tied for 21st place. Junior Sean Yu signed for a 75 and is tied for 27th place at 146. The Spartans also counted a 77 from Matt Heitel and a 78 from Ben Campbell for their 303 score.
The 54-hole championship concludes with 18 holes on May 15.
