San Jose State University sophomore Kai Bohannon, a member of the Spartans' women's cross country and track and field teams, was named a 2019 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District VIII award winner in her two sports.
A member of the cross country team in the fall and the track and field teams for the indoor and outdoor seasons, Bohannon was one of 13 second team District VIII selections.
To earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have at least sophomore standing, be enrolled at the nominating institution at least one year, maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's contests in the season nominated.
"What a fantastic honor for Kai to be named second team all district. She works so hard as an athlete and as a student. She is a very deserving recipient of this award," said San Jose State University cross country head coach and assistant track and field coach Brad Wick.
Bohannon, from Discovery Bay, Calif., had a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average at the time of her nomination. Earlier in the semester, the business administration major was honored as a President's Scholar at the university's annual Honors Convocation.
During the 2018-19 season, she had two top-20 finishes in cross country and moved into #2 on the San Jose State career list in the steeplechase with her time of 10:40.98 in the Mike Fanelli Classic.
Bohannon is the third Spartan in the six-year history of the program to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. In 2015, distance runner Rebecca Garcia, a psychology major, was the first San Jose State student-athlete selected. In 2016, graduate student Jennifer Beckingham, a mathematics major, earned the honor.
