Charleston, S.C.—Former San José State women's golfer Megan Osland (2011-15) shot a four-over par 75 in her first-ever round at a U.S. Women's Open on Thursday at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
Osland is currently tied for 101 after finishing her round Thursday evening on the par-71 course. She will be right back at in on Friday as she starts the second round on the 10th tee at 9:12 a.m. ET/6:12 a.m. PT.
After making a bogey on her first hole, Osland recovered by making five consecutive pars. She made a double-bogey on the par-4, 367-yard #7 but then made a par and a birdie on #9 to be two-over through the front nine.
A pattern developed for Osland on the back nine as she went par-bogey-par-bogey before making five consecutive pars to end the round.
Osland qualified for the 2019 U.S. Women's Open by shooting a four-under 138 to win the qualifier at the Bradenton Country Club. She turned professional in 2015 after a four-year career at San José State where she was named a first team All-Mountain West honoree in 2015. Osland won two tournament titles her senior year – Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate and the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational. She has played three seasons on the LPGA's Symetra Tour.
San José State boasts two U.S. Women's Open champions, each winning twice.
