Charleston, S.C.—Former San José State women's golfer Megan Osland shot a one-over 72 in the second round of the U.S. Women's Open Friday and is at five-over 147 after two rounds played on the par-71 course at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
Osland, making her first appearance at a U.S. Women's Open, made two birdies and 13 pars during her second round. Starting her round on #10, she made four consecutive pars before a birdie on the par-4 #14. Osland finished her first nine holes with three more pars and a bogey on #18 to shoot and even-par 35. She kept steady over her next six holes, making five pars and just one bogey before finishing bogey-birdie-par.
After two rounds, Osland is five-over par. The projected cut line is currently three-over par, but the afternoon wave is still on the course. The round was delayed for one hour and 58 minutes due to storms in the area. Lightning struck a tree that was just to the left of the green on #11. Final results will be posted late Friday night/Saturday morning.
San José State boasts two U.S. Women's Open champions, each winning twice.
Patty Sheehan – 1992 over Juli Inkster in an 18-hole playoff; 1994 one shot over Tammie Green
Juli Inkster – 1999 – five shots over Sherri Turner; 2002, two shots over Annika Sorenstam.
