San Jose, Calif.—With the new scheduling system for Mountain West Conference games, the San José State women's basketball team will start the 18-game conference schedule in early December as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
The Spartans will start conference play on the earliest date in school history – December 4 at Utah State. The team will host San Diego State on December 7 in the second MW game in December. In the unbalanced format, the Spartans will play eight teams in home-and-home series and two teams, Wyoming and San Diego State, once each.
"This year's Mountain West schedule will provide us with plenty of challenges," said head coach Jamie Craighead. "Playing two games in early December will be a good test for our team and show us where we are early in the season. A lot of conferences are going to this format now, and I am curious how this will work for our conference."
After the two league games in December, San José State celebrates 2020 with a road game at New Mexico on New Year's Day. Defending MW champion Boise State visits The Event Center on Wednesday, January 29.
The Spartans have byes on Saturday, January 18, and Wednesday, February 5.
The regular season wraps up at UNLV on February 27.
The 2020 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship, in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, begins with first-round games on Sunday, March 1 and the championship game is set for Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
