Spartans Recognized In "Best In Silicon Valley" Readers Choice Awards

            San Jose State University's athletics program was named as the runner-up in the "Best College Sports Teams" category in the Mercury News' 18th annual Best in Silicon Valley 2019 Reader's Choice Awards.
 
More than 6,000 readers of the Mercury News, the most-widely read in print and online locally-based newspaper, cast votes in more than 100 categories covering entertainment and recreation, beauty and health, food, home, pets, services and shopping.
 
The results were published in the publication's June 16 special section – "The Mercury News Best in SV2019 – 18th annual Best In Silicon Valley. The "Best College Sports Teams" category is listed on page S14.
 
In 2018-19, the Spartans won the Mountain West women's soccer tournament championship and qualified for the NCAA Championship, finished 19th in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, placed ninth in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship Austin, Texas regional, qualified two male and two female distance runners for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships preliminary meet, and advanced to the Western Athletic Conference championship match in men's soccer.

Student-athletes earned more than 180 institutional, conference and national academic honors with projections for 100 more awards for the 2018-19 academic year.
