Associate Media Relations Director Amy Villa Named To COSIDA Volunteer 15 Program

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State associate athletics media relations director Amy Villa was honored this week by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as one of 80 members nationwide who logged 15 or more volunteer hours as part of the Volunteer 15 program for the 2018-19 school year.

Villa volunteers with the Oak Grove (CA) Band Boosters (OGBB) as her daughter Grace is a member of the school's marching band, wind ensemble, jazz A and winter percussion. This past year, Amy logged over 85 volunteer hours with OGBB, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist the music department of Oak Grove High School. They raise funds to support the music program and benefit all students involved in the Band and/or Colorguard Program.

Villa serves as the Student Accounts Manager for over 100 musicians and color guard members at the school. In her role, she keeps track of payments made to the students fair share accounts as well as keeping track of credits earned through fundraising and applying to student's accounts. Amy also creates reports as to who has paid on their accounts and the amount of money to still be collected while keeping track of all payments for any special trips/activities planned, including the group's 2018 trip to London for the New Year's Day Parade.

Villa also attends monthly meetings of OGBB to go over what activities are being planned, go over budget items and fundraising ideas. She also assists at various marching band shows with getting the students ready for the performance as well as feeding the entire entourage.

Villa works various fundraisers throughout the year including the Teresa Moura Invitational, a winter percussion and winter color guard show hosted at Oak Grove HS and the Swing & Sway fundraiser, an evening of live jazz music and dancing.

Villa is in her 25th year working with San Jose State Athletics in some capacity in media relations. She currently serves as associate media relations director where she is the primary media relations contact for the Spartan volleyball, beach volleyball, women's golf and gymnastics programs.
