Softball Adds Two Junior College Players including JC All-American for 2020 Season

San Jose, Calif.—Infielders Vicky Gutierrez, from Chino Hills, Calif., and Jessica Giacoma, from Tucson, Ariz., have signed National Letters-of-Intent to join the San José State softball team for the 2019-20 school year, as announced by Spartan head coach Peter Turner.

Gutierrez was named to the NFCA 2019 Cal JC All-America team and helped lead Mt. San Antonio College to back-to-back state titles, even hitting a homerun in the 2019 championship game. She was a two-time All-South Coast Conference honoree and led the 2019 team in hitting at .434 batting average with 49 hits and 15 doubles. A 2017 graduate of Ayala High School, Gutierrez played her senior season at Ayala after competing three years at Monrovia High School.

Giacoma played the past season at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz., where she hit .343 with 58 hits, 51 runs scored, 56 RBI, 16 doubles and 13 home runs in 60 games played.  She was the ACCAC Player of the Week on April 25 after hitting .777 for the week with two doubles and a home run. Giacoma also earned the Yavapai College Athletic Director's Honor Roll for her performance in the classroom in the fall and spring. Giacoma graduated in 2018 from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy where she was the two-time Southern Arizona 3A Player of the Year.

"We are very excited to have two quality players in Vicky and Jessica join our program," said Turner. "They have played in successful high school and junior college programs and bring that 'winning attitude' to our team. They are power hitters who will be a perfect fit to our lineup."
