Spartan Gymnasts Named WCGA Scholastic All-Americans

Recent Spartan graduates Josalyn Ray, Stephanie Relova and Michelle Shalit were named 2018-19 Scholastic All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).

All three have received this honor multiple times during her career. Formerly known as NACGC/W Scholastic All-America, Relova and Shalit earned this honor all four years they were a part of the Spartan team. Ray received this honor each of the past two seasons.

To be eligible for the award, a gymnast must have at least a 3.5 overall grade point average or a 3.5 gpa for the 2018-19 school year.

"We are so proud of these three young women!  They were great role-models for the rest of our team and got rewarded with this honor for all of their hard work," said Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers.

"Stephanie and Josalyn were both team captains, competed three events each and helped in SO many ways.  Unfortunately, Michelle got hurt last fall and couldn't compete but helped as a student coach all year.

"We are recruiting young gymnasts that have their priorities straight for their futures and having these three help us in our first year with the program was a huge help.  They will all be successful in their future endeavors because they know how to work hard and get things done.  They are wonderful people too, and this is a big honor for them and for our program.  Congratulations ladies!"
