The 2019 USA Solheim Cup team will try to win its third consecutive Cup this weekend, September 13-15, under the leadership of team captain and former Spartan Juli Inkster with help for the third time from assistant captain and former Spartan Pat Hurst.

Inkster leads a very young team into the Solheim Cup as she has six rookies and nine players who never played the matches overseas. She is looking to become the first Solheim Cup captain to win the competition three consecutive times.

A San José State Sports Hall of Fame legend, Inkster holds the unique distinction as the only golfer to play for a U.S. Solheim Cup team and serve as an assistant captain (2011) and captain (2015, 17, 19). She played in nine Solheim Cups and won 18.5 points for the U.S.

Hurst, the current assistant coach for the Spartan women's program, serves as one of three assistant captains along with Wendy Ward and Nancy Lopez. She represented the United States five times as a player at the Solheim Cup, compiled a 10-7-3 record and earned 11.5 points in her five appearances. Hurst was a member of a winning USA team four times as a player (1998, 2002, 2005, 2007).

The Solheim Cup is a biennial event showcasing the top women's golfers representing the United States and Europe.  This year's competition is being held at the Gleneagles Resort's PGA Centenary Course in Scotland.  The United States is the two-time defending champion after posting a come-from-behind final day in 2015 to win 14.5-13.5, and a 16.5-11.5 win in 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 16th edition begins Friday with foursomes (alternate shot).  Action from all three days will be broadcast on the Golf Channel and streamed online using GolfChannel.com and the Golf Channel app.
